Mattishall Parish Council

Welcome to the official website for Mattishall Parish Council.

Mattishall is situated in the very heart of Norfolk, just 11 miles west of Norwich. It is the second largest village in Norfolk with just over 2,700 inhabitants.

There are many facilities that serve this thriving and active community.  Among these include: a primary school, doctors’ surgery, several churches, many clubs and societies, sports facilities, a variety of local shops, cafe, an enterprise and training centre with restaurant, and a friendly pub.  It is considered to be a ‘Service Centre’ under the Local Development Framework which means that many surrounding villages use our services.

If you wish to find out more about the village, take a look at the village website.

Ever wondered what your Parish Council is here to do?  The Parish Council is made up of 9 members who all live in Mattishall and represent the village on various matters.  We are effectively the third tier of local government, the other two being Norfolk County Council and Breckland District Council. We meet at 7 pm usually on the first Monday of the month at the Memorial Hall, South Green, Mattishall.  The public is very welcome to attend and we encourage people to speak during the open forum which is part of each formal meeting.  We discuss varying issues which affect the community and are directly responsible for:

  • The upkeep of the Burgh Lane Cemetery and All Saints Churchyard
  • All Saints Church Clock
  • The children’s play area (in the school grounds)
  • Providing general maintenance around the village
  • The allotments
  • Upkeep of the village green
  • Bus shelters and seating
  • Some recycling bins, litter bins and dog fouling bins.

We also make comments on all planning applications although the District Council or County Council make the decision.  We regularly discuss issues such as local roads and supporting local groups.  We also invite speakers to our meetings to hear about the Local Development Framework and Community Policing.

If you are interested in Mattishall why not come along to one of our meetings!
